The Memorial Art Gallery’s Art & Treasures Sale is celebrating 20 years this month. The annual event will take place Thursday to Sunday, June 12-15. The Art & Treasures Sale offers gently used antiques, fine art, jewelry, china, porcelain, silver, crystal, fine linen, and small furniture items. “Rochester’s most prestigious garage sale” supports Memorial Art Gallery programs and exhibitions, and last year was the Gallery Council’s biggest fundraiser. Howe & Rusling supports the Memorial Art Gallery with several employees volunteering their time through Council participation and assistance in fundraising efforts such as the Art & Treasures sale.

The sale is at the gallery (less than a mile from H&R, on University Ave) and begins with Early Bird Night on Thursday, June 12, from 6-8 pm. Admission is $10 and offers eager buyers a chance to get a sneak peak and buy some of the premiere treasures before they are taken. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday’s sales are free admission. Friday and Saturday are from 10 am-4 pm and Sunday (Bargain Day) goes from 12 pm until 3pm. The council is still looking for non-clothing donations for this year’s sale. All donations are tax deductible. If you are interested in donating, contact Mary Lisa Sisson at msisson@howeandrusling.com. All proceeds go to the Memorial Art Gallery.

The Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) was founded in 1913 and has grown to hold more than 12,000 works of art that represent cultures around the world and across millennia. It includes antiquities and contemporary works, such as a pair of 2,000-year-old Egyptian coffins, three paintings by Monet, and works by Rochester-based artists. The permanent collection has been called the best balanced in the state outside of metropolitan New York City. In addition to the beauty of the permanent collection, the MAG offers a schedule of temporary exhibitions, lectures, concerts, tours, and family activities.

Another intriguing aspect of the gallery is the Centennial Sculpture Park, a 10-acre area of public art and urban space on the grounds of the Memorial Art Gallery. The park is located in the heart of the Neighborhood of the Arts and is a beautiful destination for the people of Rochester and visitors alike.

The gallery is supported by its members, the University of Rochester, and public funds from Monroe County and the New York State Council on the Arts, but it also relies on fundraising events like the Art & Treasures Sale.

Supporting the Art & Treasures Sale is a great way to benefit a wonderful institution in the city that allows all of us to enjoy some of the finest art the world has to offer. We hope you can make it to the sale, support the gallery, and find your own treasure!
